Here's a fun fact for ya, both Mumma and Pappa Thanki were actually born in Uganda. And they've always kept ties to their African roots... even after they moved to India and then settled in England. We even kept special mini statues in my childhood home - which may have been to warn off bad spirits? So naturally, I've always been fascinated by these fabulously funky fabrics! The hues are always so rich and the patterns are crazy bold - very much my vibe. I love spotting women walking around the street wearing them! Which is why I fell head over heels for these colourful curtains at Peckham Levels. It's no wonder I'm enamoured by the work of the artists such as, Yinka Ilori and Afro Deco. They use variations of these fabrics in a fresh and modern way. Can you name any other artists who showcase African culture in a contemporary way? Let me know down below!
