Could you picture yourself owning a pad this pretty? Imagine how green with envy your friends would be. Now that I've reached my mid-20s, it's time to start being realistic about the future. Renting is fine for now, but eventually I'm going to need to get on the property ladder (yep, this is serious adult talk). I've always imagined I'd have to move out of the city that I love to buy a property. Honestly, who can afford to buy in London these days?
Catch some colourful Zzz's
Luckily, Pocket Living have a solution! They're building affordable, compact flats within easy commutes to central London. The real bonus is that they focus on great design. When I say affordable, I mean affordable. Each of their one-bed flats are 20% less than the current market value. In their latest development, Mapleton Crescent (Wandsworth - 15 mins from Waterloo), the most expensive one-bed property is £330k. When area average is approx £450k. With the government's 'London Help to Buy' scheme for new homes, you could purchase a property with only a 5% deposit... so technically you could own one of these flats with a down payment of £16.5k. Which isn't a ridiculous sum between two people if you think about it.
Imagine the view...
Oh wait you don't have to!
You just have to be living or working in the borough, have a max household income of £66k, and be a first-time buyer. As well as their affordable Pocket homes some Pocket Living developments also feature their larger two and three bedroom Pocket Edition homes, which are available to all Londoners, not just those within their Pocket criteria. You could seriously own one of these homes in this terrific triangular 27-storey building, designed by Metropolitan Workshop. The exterior of your building would be covered with gorgeous green glazed-terracotta tiles, created by Loraine Rutt. You could tell your visitors about how this unique colour blend was inspired by the River Wandle. You could even take them up to the roof terrace in the summer. And, for the other 10 months of the year you could chill out in the residents' lounge overlooking the river. If the prospect of living in SW18 appeals to you, book yourself in for a viewing, fast!
Rocky Rosh at the top of her stairs mountain
- - - Rosh Realness - - - To see this show flat, I climbed 17 flights of stairs yesterday (whilst incredibly hungover) as the lift was broken. So you can never tell me I'm not dedicated to you guys! Also a little disclaimer, the show flat was a full-priced three-bed and so the fixtures and fittings may not be as high spec in the affordable one-beds.
